Home builders showcase new Fayetteville area homes

FAYETTEVILLE – More than 30 new homes across three counties were put on display this weekend in the Sandhills as part of the annual Parade of Homes, organized by the Home Builders Association of Fayetteville.

The event gives homebuilders and real estate agents a chance to showcase their product to consumers.

Home sales are going strong in Fayetteville. Recently, the area was ranked second in the nation for selling a home by the Zillow Real Estate Market Report.

“It really has a lot to do with the military and the fact that we have never had any subprime lending,” Malcom McFadyen, vice president of the Homebuilders Association, said. “Our mortgage has always been for the most part VA mortgages, and so our folks aren’t in trouble.”

Driving the flurry of construction in the Fayetteville area is the promise of thousands of soldiers and their families moving into the area over the next couple of years. Realtors also expect an increase in sales as first-time home buyers are trying to take advantage of an $8,000 tax credit.

“A lot of folks are out here today looking because of that,” McFadyen said. “If you haven’t bought your home and closed by Nov. 30, then you don’t have access to that $8,000 tax credit.”

The homes in the event range from $140,000 to close to $700,000.

The Parade of Homes in Fayetteville runs this weekend and again next weekend.

Will the $8,000 First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit Expand to $15,000?

Source: US News & World Report
In an effort to jump-start the ailing housing market, Sen. Johnny Isakson, a Republican from Georgia (and a former real estate professional) has introduced legislation that would beef up the
tax credit for first-time home buyers. Under the terms of his bill, which was introduced Wednesday, the size of the credit would expand to a maximum of $15,000 from the previous cap of $8,000, and it could be taken by anyone who buys a primary residence, instead of only by first-time home buyers. The bill would also remove the income limits that had prevented individuals making more than $75,000 a year from claiming the credit, which would be available for a year after the date of the bill's enactment. > View Full Article

Caviness and Cates named in Top 100 Home Builders for 2008

Builder Magazine has named the top home builders for 2008, ranking central-based North Carolina builder Caviness and Cates, 89th out of the top 100 builders in the U.S. The magazine’s “Builder 100” Survey is the most widely known and respected listing throughout the industry, focusing on closings and gross revenue of builders and their improvement from the prior year.

For 2008, Caviness and Cates closed 315 homes and grossed $75 million in revenue. “We are proud to be ranked on the list,” says CEO, Watson Caviness, “since it is a reflection of companies that survived one of the rockiest years in housing history.” Watson adds, “We survived 2008 by building in desirable locations, offering affordable, quality homes and help with closing costs.”
